What do people comment on the most when they first visit your home?
Usually, it’s the wallpaper in the family room. It is an image by photographer Slim Aarons of Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, in the French Riviera. I have used his images converted to wallpaper for several clients now and it’s a very cost-effective way to create wow factor.

Your most sentimental piece?
A hand-carved stone elephant that I bought at Victoria Falls, in Zimbabwe, when I was working on an exchange after I finished school. It sits proudly in my powder room downstairs.

Favourite time of day at home?
I love the evenings – summer or winter. Our back room has a great family feel to it. Either the doors are wide open in summer or, in winter, we have a huge fire going.

How do you like to entertain?
A Sunday afternoon barbecue out the back with kids in the pool is our favourite thing to do with friends.

What’s a typical weekend like for your family?
With three boys, if it’s not sport focused we love to spend time at our beach house in Flinders, on the Mornington Peninsula.

The biggest challenge during the renovation?
Installing the huge sliding doors at the back of our house. Our extension was designed around these doors and each one apparently weighs about 300kg!

Favourite spot in Hawthorn?
I love Blood Orange Foodstore. They make delicious take-home meals, beautiful dressings and jams, all on-site.

What does home mean to you?
To me, it’s the sound of my boys running down the hallway when Scott gets home. It’s a place where we celebrate the simple things in life.
